DTrace to be Included in Next Mac OS X
Open Source Performance Analysis and Debugging Tool Adoption Grows

The DTrace performance analysis and debugging tool will be in the next version of the Mac OS X. It is one of the many new features in the upcoming Mac OS X 10.5 (codenamed Leopard) operating system. There will be the new Xcode 3.0 text editor, Interface Builder 3.0 and Xray, a performance tool. Many such Xray instruments leverage the open source DTrace, now built into Mac OS X Leopard.

A draft of a new specification has been published that will define a consistent way of expressing how computer networks, applications, servers and other IT resources are described or modeled. Companies collaborating on the specification include Sun, BEA Systems, BMC Software, Cisco Systems, Dell, EMC, HP, IBM Corp, Intel and Microsoft.
