AMD's recently formed grid technology team and Altair Engineering will collaborate on grid technology. AMD will provide Altair with hardware and access to technical resources for tighter integration with AMD chip technology and PBS Professional.
PBS Professional grid technology from Altair is an open-architecture workload management solution for High Performance Computing (HPC) environments. It schedules computational workload to make the best use of computing resources. PBS Professional supports AMD single- and dual-core processors on Linux™, SUSE, Red Hat and the SolarisTM Operating System (Solaris OS). PBS Professional is part of a suite from Altair, PBS GridWorks, which allows enterprise clients to maximize their ROI on computing assets through policy-based grid technology. Altair Engineering provides advanced engineering software, product design and grid computing technologies.
The goal of this collaboration is to help provide economical HPC solutions to AMD clients. Monica Behncke, director of AMD Commercial Segment Marketing, explained: "Altair's grid technology helps our clients maximize their throughput on market-leading multi-core systems based on AMD technology. The combination of AMD hardware and PBS Professional software delivers productivity gains, adding true business value to grid computing customers."
"This is a powerhouse partnership that reaffirms the future of dual- and multi-core technology," said Michael Humphrey, vice president of Altair's GridWorks business unit. "Both AMD and Altair are leaders in their respective fields."
