Solstice Enterprise Manager 3.0
Java-enabled version of highly scalable, multi-protocol distributed network management

The new Java-enabled version of Sun's multi-protocol distributed network management foundation, Solstice Enterprise Manager (SEM) 3.0 is now available. The new version integrates the Java development environment to provide enterprises and carriers a faster time to market of new business services while maintaining unlimited scalability.

SEM is being deployed by a wide variety of enterprises that rely on a stable network to succeed, including leading telecommunications carriers and ISPs throughout the world.

New In SEM 3.0

Several new features and enhancements allow SEM to manage reliable, available, and scalable networks of several million objects while aggressively deploying new products and services.

An improved user interface hides the complexity of technical terminology and provides end users with intuitively titled windows and dialog boxes, a common menu structure, and simplified error messages.

A suite of Java tools allows rapid application development and cross-platform support, as well as a 100% Java graphical installation wizard to ease installation of the management solution as a whole. The Java Development Environment, Java Agent Management, and Java Installation Wizard provide the basis for faster deployment and remote management of applications with decreased installer or administrator intervention. These features significantly reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

The integration of the Java Dynamic Management Kit (JDMK) is the first such implementation that bridges the gap between existing standards and the growing use of Java for agent implementation. Integrating intelligence into devices in this way reduces management traffic on the network, allows low-level problems to be dealt with locally without alarm generation, enables quicker response to events, and contributes to decreased TCO.

The improved implementation of new services on top of the SEM infrastructure allows flexibility and scalability for future growth without modification of existing applications. This protects customers' investments in legacy applications.

SEM 3.0 starts at $15,500 for the base management information server. [...read more...]
