Providing network management solutions to manage any network of any size, Sun demonstrated a prototype of its network management solution for managing millions of objects, including Jini-enabled consumer devices. The prototype is based on Sun's scalable and reliable Solstice Enterprise Manager software. Solstice Enterprise Manager, integrating the Java Development Management Kit (JDMK), has already been deployed by telecommunications and enterprise service providers to manage large, complex satellite, telephony, video, wireless data, cellular, PCS, messaging, and optical networks.

Network Management for the Telecommunications Industry

The scalable and reliable architecture of Solstice Enterprise Manager is fully realized in the telecommunications industry, where managing millions of objects and reliability of more than 99.999% are entry check-off requisites. Telecommunications customers deploying Solstice Enterprise Manager include Ericsson, Inc., Hughes Network Systems, Motorola, Inc., and QUALCOMM.

Focused on delivering scalable, reliable and powerful network management primarily to telecommunication organizations and network service providers, Solstice Enterprise Manager is a key component of Sun's Service-Driven Network strategy. Built on proven industry standards and designed to offer the best foundation for network management flexibility with low cost of ownership, Solstice Enterprise Manager can be easily extended to address specific customer requirements for the delivery and management of new and timely services. Out of the box consolidated management supports protocols including SNMP, CMIP, RPC, and Java agents to enable a consistent approach to management policies and procedures.
