Provisioning Capabilities of Oracle Enterprise Ops Center Manager 12c [28096]
Two New Oracle Learning Videos
Two new videos on the Oracle Learning Youtube channel cover the provisioning capabilities of Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12c, Owen Allen reports. Both presentations are by Simon Hayler. According to Allen the first video shows how to provision Oracle Solaris zones, explaining how to create an Oracle Solaris Zone profile and then showing how to apply it (using a deployment plan) to a target system. The second video shows how to provision an x86 server with Oracle Solaris using a very similar process: you create an OS provisioning profile, then use a deployment plan to apply it to the target hardware.

Migrating Oracle Solaris 8 P2V with Oracle Database 10.2 and ASM [27805]
Target Is Solaris 8 Branded Zone Inside a Solaris 10 Guest Domain on top of Solaris 11 Control Domain
The procedure for migrating a physical Solaris 8 P2V system with Oracle database 10.2 with an ASM file system into a Solaris 8 branded zone inside a Solaris 10 guest domain on top of a Solaris 11 control domain is the subject of a recent post by Orgad Kimchi. The author presents two examples. One preserves the host information while the second involves modifying the host name. Kimchi successfully migrated the Solaris 8 physical system into the Solaris 8 branded Zone, and the Zone was able to access the ASM file system.

Creating Oracle Solaris 11 Zones with Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12c [27327]
Employs Plan Management View which Shows CPU Utilization at Zone Level
In a procedure replete with code samples and screen shots, Laura Hartman outlines the steps necessary to create and configure an Oracle Solaris 11 non-global zone from the Plan Management View of Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12c. The zones created with this procedure will have these characteristics, Hartman writes:
- SAN storage is used for the zone and NAS storage is used for the zone metadata.
- The zone is installed from the Oracle Solaris 11 Software Update library.
Hartman advises that the zone is available for use as a separate operating system.

Enabling 2 GB Large Pages on Solaris 10 8/11 [27168]
In Three Simple Steps
While the Oracle Solaris 11 kernel has built-in support for 2 Gigabyte (GB) large pages, Solaris 10 does not, so Giri Mandalika has written a procedure for enabling 2 GB large pages on Solaris 10 8/11 (Update 10 or later). It takes a mere three steps for the 2 GB large page capability to be enabled in Solaris 10.
