AI's First Stop: The IoT Edge [65482]
ITBusinessEdge, August 11th, 2017

"Machine learning and other forms of artificial intelligence will likely infiltrate all levels of the IT infrastructure stack, but some architectures will take to it more readily than others. And while it is tempting to view AI in terms of the changes it will bring to the data center, the more imminent and profound impact will be on the Internet of Things (IoT).

Particularly on the edge, AI offers the only viable means of assessing and coordinating the data flows from massive numbers of devices - many of them imbued with their own levels of intelligence - to produce results that are both meaningful and timely. Much of the storage and processing of IoT workloads will take place on the edge, so it only makes sense that it will incorporate intelligence as a core asset..."

As Internet of Things attack threat grows, smaller businesses get better prepared [65485]
SiliconANGLE, August 10th, 2017

"The explosive growth of Internet of Things devices means that businesses are more vulnerable to cybersecurity risks than ever before, claim a couple of new studies on IoT security.

F5 Networks Inc., a U.S. company that sells application threat intelligence tools for enterprises, said in its new global IoT threat report released today that attacks on IoT devices and infrastructure have risen by 280 percent from January through June. The company said a big chunk of this growth stems from the rise of Mirai malware, which infects IoT devices and gathers them into massive bot networks..."

Developers Plead With Boardrooms To Take Iot Security More Seriously [65396]
Data Center Knowledge, August 4th, 2017

"As the U.S. government looks to introduce new legislation that will require Internet of Things (IoT) devices to bake in more security measures, new survey data from Netsparker this week suggests the move could be coming just in time.

Web application security provider Netsparker released data on Thursday that found 52 percent of web developers think IoT and smart home technologies are the most vulnerable technologies to attacks, more vulnerable than web apps and online services (41 percent). Smart TVs, connected cars, and ATMs are also at higher risks of hacking than other technologies, developers say..."
